How did your weight loss journey begin/what lead you to begin (health problems, low energy, joint pain, etc.)?
It all started from developing a lactose intolerance so severe that it would make me vomit and feeling weak and miserable. I knew I needed to make a change. I had always stayed fairly healthy and kept up with a workout regimen until my brother passed away. I slowly but surely turned to food for comfort. I had already had lactose intolerance, but eating terribly day after day made it worse. So I made the decision to clean up my diet and exercise at least 5 days a week.
Did you try any diet programs? How did they work?
Explain the process that you went through (in detail) to lose weight. What lifestyle changes did you make and how hard were they?
When I decided to get healthy and fit for my well being, I started by incorporating healthier foods and working out more. Some of my favorite things to do are to get outdoors and do at-home programs. I do whatever I feel like doing that day. Some days I’ll just walk, ride my bike, play tennis or run at the gym. If it’s cold or rainy outside, I do at-home workout videos such as Bob Harper’s Bootcamp or Weight Watchers Cardio. I really had to try my best to avoid baking too often because sweets are my weakness. I also tried to avoid the drive thru and limited eating out to only once or twice a week.
How much weight did you want to lose and how much did you actually lose?
I had wanted to be healthier in general, but I thought I looked the best at 130-145 pounds. I ended up getting to 142 pounds from my starting weight of 180.
Is your journey over? Do you still follow the same lifestyle guidelines that allowed you to lose weight in the first place?
My journey is never over. There is always something new I can learn when it comes to being healthier and more fit. I do still follow the same guidelines, which is how I’ve been able to maintain my weight.
Have you been able to maintain your total weight loss?
Although it fluctuates occasionally, yes I have been able to keep the weight off.
What advice can you give fellow LOVE&Loss members that might help and encourage them?
Some advice I would give is to take baby steps. You don’t have to change your lifestyle drastically. Just take your time, incorporate more water, vegetables and fruits, and exercise. Always be open to learning more.
